How to Fix a Stuck Roller Shutter?

Roller shutters offer a wide range of benefits to commercial and domestic properties including enhanced security, great insulation and weather resistance.

With this in mind, in order to ensure they continue to perform to a high standard, it’s important to keep them in the very best condition at all times.

There may be occasions when you need to fix a stuck roller door or handle other repairs. No matter what type of damage has been sustained to your product, it’s essential that the issue is addressed as soon as possible. In this article, we’ll provide you with guidance on how to fix a roller shutter if damage has occurred.

How to fix a stuck roller shutter?

One of the most common problems you may experience with a roller shutter is stuck parts or jamming.

A roller shutter stuck halfway presents a variety of problems. As well as leaving your garage or property exposed, it will also compromise insulation, create an unsightly appearance and, if not promptly addressed, could even result in further problems in the future.

Let’s take a look at the different ways you can fix a stuck roller shutter.

How to fix stuck electric roller shutters?

These days, most roller shutters are automated.

If electric roller shutters have become stuck or jammed, then usually it will be due to a problem with the power supply.

The first thing you should do is to check if the electrical outlet is working correctly and that the shutter has power going to it.

If the power is working, then the batteries in the remote control may be the problem. Try changing the batteries to see if this makes a difference.

Alternatively, the issue could be with the shutters’ motor.  In these instances, you will need the support of a professional company such as SAA Industrial & Garage Door Specialists.

In the meantime, you may be able to manually close the shutters by using a hand crank and manual override options.

How to fix stuck manual roller shutters?

If you have manual roller shutters that have become stuck, then it is likely due to an issue with the product’s components.

Often this could be because of a problem with the tracks and you should make sure that they are free of dirt and debris and are properly lubricated to ensure seamless movement.

If the door is still sticking after you have done this, then it may be because the shutters’ tension is too tight.

To adjust this, you can loosen the screws on the bottom bar and move it up and down so that the shutters’ operation is seamless.

When your roller shutters are stuck, you should never try to force them closed. This can cause further damage to the shutters and may even cause you harm.

If you spot any visible damage, such as dents, cracks or obviously broken components, then you should always call for professional support.
